Reverend Hubert L. Stern went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg. He was born July 3, 1931 to the late Oscar and Carrie Lauver Stern in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania.
Rev. Stern held a Bachelor’s degree from Upland College in Upland, California, an affiliate of Messiah College (now University), and a Master’s Degree from Shippensburg State College (now University). He served the Lord as a pastor in Michigan, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. He also taught school and later worked for a Christian book distributor. After his initial retirement, he worked for 20 years as Warehouse Supervisor for Ten Thousand Villages, a Christian fair-trade retailer.
Hubert is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evangeline Hostetler Stern. He is also survived by sons Lane (Winifred) of Newville, Lewis (Anna Mae) of Chambersburg, Neil (Crystal) of Cattaraugus, NY, and daughter Nita (David) Loomis of Bloomington, IL, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a sister, Miriam Webb of California. In addition to his parents, Hubert was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Vicki and three sisters, Ethel Brubaker, Viola Burns, and Bernice Ferry.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 17th, at 11 AM at the Grantham Brethren in Christ Church, 421 Grantham Rd, Mechanicsburg, with Reverend David Parry officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at Grantham Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Messiah Lifeways, 100 Mt. Allen Dr., Mechanicsburg.
