Inez L. Detwiler, 98, Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at her home.

She was born in rural Williamsburg, daughter of the late Henry W. and Elizabeth (Quarry) Seedenburg.  On June 12, 1946 she married John W. Detwiler in Bedford.  He preceded her in death on July 26, 1993.

Surviving are 5 daughters: Barbara Brumbaugh (Larry) of Martinsburg, Bonnie Lower (Shorty), Mary Over (Chet), Dorothy Kauruter (Steve) all of Williamsburg, and Joyce Reigh (Ken) of Hesston; 2 sons: Stan Detwiler (Patty) and Alan “Duck” Detwiler both of Williamsburg; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Detwiler of Duncansville; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons: John Henry and Dennis “Bud”.

Inez was a 1937 graduate of Martinsburg High School, and was raised in Martinsburg until moving to Williamsburg in 1949.  In that year she became a member of the Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, where she served in countless ways including, the Church Board and as a Sunday School Teacher.

In 2002 she was awarded The Good Samaritan Distinguished Service Award by The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg for her years of dedication as a volunteer.  Inez was very active in her community and had been a member or volunteer in the following: V.F.W., Civic Club, Election Board, Waid Executive Board, Auxiliary Board of Nason Hospital, Fireman’s Auxiliary, Library Board, The Evergreens, and she also helped with the Cub Scouts, the Williamsburg Pioneer Girls, and was a Girl Scout Leader and band parent.

Inez was primarily a homemaker who had also worked at Doc Johnson’s Drug Store, Sheffer’s Store and the American Store all in Martinsburg.

Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Williamsburg Church of the Brethren.  A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the church, Pastor Allen J. Baker Jr. and Pastor Duane Crumrine officiating.  Interment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, 529 W. Third St., Williamsburg, PA 16693 or Williamsburg Public Library, 511 W. Second St., Williamsburg, PA  16693.
