Iola Mae (Brumbaugh) Russell

November 28, 1926 — June 22, 2020

Iola Mae (Brumbaugh) Russell was born November 28, 1926, in Fredericksburg, PA. She was the first-born of Howard and Thelma (Oakes) Brumbaugh’s three daughters. Iola entered into God’s eternal embrace on June 22,2020 at the age of 93. She was a resident at Homewood at Martinsburg (PA).

Iola graduated from Morrisons Cove High School in 1944. She and Richard E. Russell shared over 50 years of marriage prior to Richard’s death in 2000. While Richard ran their Woodbury farm, Iola was a homemaker and later a cashier at the Roaring Spring Department Store, the A&P (Martinsburg and Roaring Spring locations), and Guyer’s AG (Woodbury).

Iola was a long-time member of the Woodbury Church of Brethren, where she faithfully shared her time and talent with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed decorating, and her home was always filled with beautiful collectibles, crafts, and pictures of her family. Her wardrobe and jewelry were as classic as her décor. Iola loved to travel. Bus trips, international destinations, outings to Bland’s Park with her grandkids, and overnights to quilt shows filled her retirement years. She was a talented sewer and quilter in her own right, although she will best be remembered for the ways she wove her family together.

Iola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, L. Jane Furry. Iola leaves to our safekeeping her sister, Carol Cuomo; her five children: Stephen (Doris) Russell; James Russell; Linda (Gary) Green; Cynthia (Gregory) St. Clair; Beverly (Steven) Beck; her 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family.  Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions in remembrance of Iola may be sent to the Woodbury Food Pantry, Woodbury, PA.

Arrangements by Weaver Funeral Home, LLC (weaversfh.com); Woodbury, PA.
