Irene G. Maurer, 92, Martinsburg, passed away Monday afternoon at her home.
She was born in Curryville, daughter of the late Harry E. and Mabel E. (Skinner) Gahagan. She was married three times, first to Jesse N. Blough, then to Frank J. Bopp and her last marriage was to John B. Maurer. They all preceded Irene in death.
Surviving are a son, Steven A. Blough (wife, Mary Ann) of Aberdeen, MD; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Eric D. Blough; a grandson, Joshua Blough; 5 brothers: Paul, Glen, Howard, Harry, and Luther; and 4 sisters, Florence Hess, Helena Rhodes, Elva Stapleton, and Kathryn Wolf.
Irene was a 1940 graduate of Marion Center High School and was a former member of the American Organ Society and American Quilters Guild.
She retired as a research design engineer in optometry for Shuron, Tampa, FL with 7years of service. Irene was previously employed as a fashion designer for Playtex, Ridgefield, NJ with 14 years of service. After her retirement she was a counselor for Christian Services Int. for 7 years.
Irene was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Tampa, FL where she was a former organist and was currently attending Diehl’s Crossroads Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg.
At the request of the deceased there will be no public viewing or funeral service. A private service will be held at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, Pastor Millie Baker officiating. Interment to follow at Smicksburg Methodist Cemetery, Indiana County.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Diehl’s Crossroads Church of the Brethren or Village in Place Hospice.
