Ithel J. "Ike" Wright

Ithel J. “Ike” Wright, 94, of Martinsburg, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Juniper Village, State College.  He was born in Hopewell, a son of the late Chester and Evelyn (Lynn) Wright.  On June 24, 1961, he married Mary Miller in Saxton and they made their home in Phoenixville.  They moved to Akron, Ohio a few years later, where they lovingly built their life and raised their two children.  After many happy years together, Mary preceded him in death on April 6, 1990.  After retiring in 1992, Ike returned to Pennsylvania.  He married Janet Hoover on August 8, 1992, settling first in Roaring Spring and later in Martinsburg.  They enjoyed spending time with their families, serving in their church, golfing, and traveling in their RV.  Janet preceded him in death on December 12, 2018.  He married Carolyn Imler on December 5, 2021, who survives in Harrisburg.

Ike is survived by his two children: Daniel and Kelly Wright, State College, and Julie and Neal Noem, Bellefonte; five grandchildren: Paul and Elizabeth Wright, Mary Ann Wright, Allie Stanich, Emma Stanich, and Taylor Noem; two great-grandchildren: Eleanor and Maxwell Wright; four siblings: Paul and Linda Wright, Fayetta Barber, Leroy and Carol Wright, and Alan and Carol Wright; and a sister-in-law Harriet Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

Ike was a 1950 graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School, and then attended the University of Findlay, in Findlay, Ohio. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Physics in 1954.  Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in Germany for three years.  Ike started his career as a Compounder with Oaks Tire in Phoenixville.  He then became a Tire Cord Engineer with B.F. Goodrich in Akron, Ohio, retiring after 34 years.  Ike was a member and past deacon of the Memorial Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg. He loved woodworking, making special pieces of furniture for each of his grandchildren.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing, studying the bible, and spending time with his family.

Friends will be received on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the Memorial Church of the Brethren.  The funeral service will take place at noon, with Pastor Eric Martin officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg, with military rites conducted by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.  Contributions may be made in Ike’s name to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
