James E. Baker, of Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on the morning of June 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving children after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Jay was a man who truly lived his God-given purpose. A lifelong dairy farmer, farming was far more than an occupation—it was his calling. He poured his heart into the land, his cows, and the life he built for his family. He took great pride in the farm he created through unwavering determination, hard work, and faith. His legacy is one of perseverance, integrity, and a work ethic that inspired everyone who knew him.
Known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor, Jay was a practical jokester who never missed an opportunity to make someone smile. He was a steadfast friend, a trusted neighbor, and an integral part of the local farming community. Whether lending a helping hand or sharing stories and laughter, he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Of all the roles he cherished, none brought him greater joy than being a father. He was the proud father of four children, whom he loved unconditionally and encouraged through his example of faith, resilience, and selfless dedication. Beyond his own family, Jay became a father figure and mentor to countless others, demonstrating what it meant to live a life rooted in purpose, humility, and service.
Jay found happiness in the simple blessings of life. He loved hunting, spending time outdoors, and gathering with family and friends at the butcher shop, where stories, laughter, and fellowship were always plentiful. One of his favorite places was Ocracoke Island, where vacations with his family created treasured memories that will be held close for generations.
He is survived by his four beloved children; Benjamin Baker (wife Natalie), Emily Beck (husband Ryan), Jeri Reid (husband Jeffrey), Candis Bequeath (husband Jonas) and seven cherished grandchildren; Oliver, Griffin, Atlas, August, Maximus, Luna and Juniper, who brought immeasurable joy to his life; brothers Bradley D. and Brian D. Baker; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever remember his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering character. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Donald Baker and Carolyn Dawn Baker, and his loyal farm dog companion, Andy.
Jay was a proud member of the Bedford Farm Bureau and the Henrietta and Martinsburg Sportsman's Clubs. Although his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy lives on in the family he loved, the farm he faithfully tended, the friendships he cultivated, and the countless lives he influenced through his example. His life reminds us that true success is measured not by what we possess, but by the love we give, the work we do with purpose, and the faith with which we live.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 5 – 8 pm at the Memorial Church of the Brethren, and again on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service at the church with Pastor Matt Moushlian officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
