James Andrew Bookhammer

James Andrew Bookhammer, beloved father and grandfather, age 80, of Williamsburg, passed away Friday afternoon, December 30, 2022 at UPMC Altoona, following a brief illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late George W.J. and Ruth A. (Byrd) Bookhammer.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey W. Bookhammer (Michelle) of Roaring Spring; two daughters: Sandy Hughes of Martinsburg and Catherine Vasas (Eric) of Roaring Spring; a brother, Terry Bookhammer of Williamsburg; and two sisters: Patty Wilson of Bedford and Georgette Strub in Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Wesley Bookhammer and a brother, Gerald Bookhammer.
Andy attended high school in Williamsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1960 until 1963 attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class.
He retired in 2004 as a concrete mixer driver from Grannas Brothers, Williamsburg and previously worked as a production supervisor for Small Tube Products in Duncansville.
Andy enjoyed cooking, older country music and lively debates with family and friend, but his greatest love was being a grandfather to: Abbie Hughes, Elizabeth Bookhammer, Owen, Damien and Alexandra Vasas; and a great-grandfather to Preston and Dominic Samson.
Friends will be received from 11:30am until 1pm, Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, where a funeral service with military honors will follow at 1pm. Private interment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
Memorial contributions in memory of Andy may be given to the homeless veteran’s program, c/o James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center or to the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
