James C. Hoover

James C. Hoover, 87, of Martinsburg, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026 at the Village at Morrisons Cove. He was born on May 1, 1939 in Roaring Spring; son of the late Melvin C. and Alma M. (Zook) Hoover. On June 10, 1961 in Roaring Spring, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou (Wineland) Hoover; she preceded him in death on April 6, 2013.

James was a Class of 1957 graduate of Roaring Spring High School. He furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master’s degree from Shippensburg University. James was the Guidance Counselor at Claysburg-Kimmel High School for many years. After retirement, he drove school bus for Northern Bedford and was an usher at the Altoona Curve. James was an active member of the First Church of the Brethren – Roaring Spring. He taught Sunday School, participated in the Men’s Fellowship, and sang in the choir.

Surviving are his son, Todd C. Hoover (Melody) of Woodbury; daughter, Stephanie Partner (Art) of Hollidaysburg; grandchildren: Ben Hoover (Caitlin), Adam Hoover (BreAnn), Seth Partner, and Olivia Sager (Josh); great-grandchildren: Lily, Lucy, and Brooklynn; brother, Kenneth M. Hoover (Debbie); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Monday, August 24, 2026 from 1:00PM until the 3:00PM Memorial Service at the First Church of the Brethren – Roaring Spring; Rev. Dr. Dave Crumrine officiating. Inurnment will be in Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in James’s name may be made to the First Church of the Brethren (901 Bloomfield St. Roaring Spring, PA 16673) or The Village at Morrisons Cove Good Samaritan Fund (429 S. Market St. Martinsburg, PA 16662).
