James E. Selwitz, 77, Altoona, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Saturday morning, September 21, 2019 at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Henry E. “Hank” and Charlotte L. (Cooper) Selwitz.  On August 19, 1967 he married Mona Lee Ellis in Altoona.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years; two sisters: Marsha L. (Steve) Metzger of Roaring Spring and Susan S. (Eddie) Ickes of Osterburg; a sister-in-law, Cathy D. (Doug) Dean of Indianapolis, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a 1960 graduate of Williamsburg High School and also received a degree in accounting from the Altoona School of Commerce. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1964 until 1967 attaining the rank of Specialist 5th Class.

Jim was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona.  He retired as a security guard, where he worked most of those years at Westvaco, Williamsburg.

He loved spending time with his family and also enjoyed watching Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football games.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11am, Friday, September 27, 2019 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona, Reverend Gene Tucker and Lay Pastor Kevin Barron officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Jim can be given to the funeral home to help with expenses or to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 806 13th St., Altoona, PA 16602.
