James Anthony Shirer

James Anthony Shirer, 76, of Martinsburg, formerly of Westmoreland County, passed away Friday evening, February 2, 2024 at his home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born in Greensburg, son of Glenn Sheplar Sr. and Pauline Rose (Antonuicci) Shirer.  Jim was twice married first to, Judy Lynn Hull, who preceded him in death in 2014 and then to Anna Mary (Yoder) Shirer.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Annie of Martinsburg; and two brothers: Glenn Shirer of Coronado, CA and Paul Shirer of New Smyrna Beach, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

James was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving during Vietnam from 1964 until 1967 attaining the rank of private.  He retired as a security guard from U.S. Steel in Braddock, Allegheny County.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 33, Greensburg and D. Merl Tipton VFW Post 43, Martinsburg.

Friends will be received from 1-2pm, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where a funeral service with full military honors will begin at 2pm.  Private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.

The family prefers memorial contributions in memory of James be given to UPMC Home Healthcare and Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Dr., Altoona, PA 16601.
