Janet I. Kreider

Janet I. Kreider, 91, Martinsburg, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, March 1, 2024, at Homewood at Martinsburg surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born in Martinsburg, daughter of the late Edgar H. and Sarah C. (Miller) Lykens. On June 18, 1955, she married Charles I. Kreider at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2011 following 55 years of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen L. Greenleaf (Richard) of Delta Junction, AK; a son, Edgar C. Kreider (Dean Grubb) of Martinsburg; four grandchildren: Gabriel Greenleaf (Megan), Christopher Greenleaf (Cara) and James (Kari) Greenleaf all of Delta Junction, AK and John (Nika) Greenleaf of Sequim, WA; ten great-grandchildren; a great-niece and caregiver, Darby Walter; her devoted friend and caregiver, Peggy Freyer; and many nieces and nephews she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise A. Stoudnour.
Janet was a 1950 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She went onto work at Gable’s Department Store, Altoona, for many years as an interior designer. Janet volunteered for over 50 years at the Nason Hospital Gift Shop and also served on the Nason Hospital Board of Directors. In 2006, she was presented the George Award for her “tireless work to improve the quality of life” in Blair County. Janet was a member of the Martinsburg Booster Association, serving as the first woman president.
She was a longtime faithful and active member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, where she served on church council, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and volunteered for numerous church activities.
Janet was a life member of the D. Merl Tipton VFW Post 43 Auxiliary, Martinsburg and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Roaring Spring, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America Jobel Court #11, Hollidaysburg Chapter #471 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Fuchsias, a Red Hat Society group.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Homewood at Martinsburg for the wonderful care provided to their loved one.
Friends will be received from 4-7pm, Thursday, March 7, 2024 at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and from 10 until 11am, Friday, March 8, 2024 at the church, where a funeral service will begin at 11am, Rev. Traci Marriott and Rev. Jerry McCuller Jr. officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
