Jeffrey “Jeff” Wayne Bookhammer, 58, of Roaring Spring, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at his home. He was born on December 10, 1967 in Altoona; son of Nancy (Edwards) Shoenfelt and the late James “Andy” Bookhammer. On November 20, 1999 he was united in marriage to Michelle Marie (Barner) Bookhammer, who survives.

Jeff was a 1985 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Jeff was stationed in various places: Fort Sill in Lawton, OK, Germany, Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Jeff served with the 101st Airborne Division and was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War.

Jeff was extremely gifted with numbers and had careers as an administrative assistant and payroll specialist. He was previously employed by Grannas Brothers, Ciocca, Benton, & Okonak Accounting, and New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company. Jeff loved to read, play games, poker, and blackjack. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan since birth, with many lively discussions throughout the years. Jeff enjoyed watching the NFL and college football, especially Penn State with his wife. He was thought to have “9 lives” and as a “cat whisperer.” Jeff never met a cat he did not like. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with his wife and daughter.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, James “Andy” Bookhammer; stepfather, Paul Shoenfelt; and a brother, Wesley Bookhammer. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; daughter, Elizabeth, his pride and joy and his greatest love; mother, Nancy; sisters: Sandy Hughes (Tom) and Catherine “Catie” Vasas (Eric); nieces and nephews: Abbie Sampson (Andrew), Damien Vasas, and Lexi Vasas; and great-nephews, Preston and Dominic Sampson.

At the request of the deceased, no services will be held. To honor Jeff’s memory, please give a donation to any organization that cares for cats/kittens. Jeff will be greatly missed by all, especially his fur balls at home.
