Jerry Allen Stern, 69, of Martinsburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday morning, December 11, 2024, at his residence.

He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Merle C. “Pete” and Vera M. (Replogle) Stern.  On November 25, 1978, he married Susan Elaine Waite at the First Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Sue of 46 years of marriage and 51 years together; a son, Jason M. Stern (Megan); a daughter, Gretchen E. Bettwy (Joe); five grandchildren: Evalyn and Ella Bettwy, Liam, Caleb and Paige Stern; and two brothers: Kenneth H. Stern (Lizette) and Barry M. Stern (Alice).

Jerry was a 1972 graduate of Central High School and attended the Altoona School of Commerce and Penn State Altoona Campus.  He also completed a three year course in Bible Studies at the Altoona Bible Institute.

As a young man growing up in the cove, he pumped gas at Feather Petroleum in Martinsburg.   From 1975-1982, he was employed as the Store Manager at the Wineland IGA, Martinsburg; from 1982-1989, he was the Deputy Prothonotary for Blair County; from 1989-1992, he served as the Blair County Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts; and in 1992,  Jerry was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, where he honorably served the constituents of the 80th District until January 6, 2015.

Jerry was a lifetime member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and sang with the Adult Choir and Maranatha Quartet.  He also served as a lay minister for his church and for many other local churches.

He was a member of the Martinsburg Sportsmen’s Association, Blair County Chamber of Commerce, Blair County Farm Bureau and Blair County Republican Committee.  Jerry was a longtime member of the local Rotary International, serving twice as president and as the assistant district governor.  He also served his community as a board member for Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring and Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service.

Jerry loved spending time with his family and sharing his faith with each and everyone he crossed paths with during his day.  He also enjoyed bowling (he earned his professionals card), gardening and playing softball.  Jerry was a longtime, proud team member of the world famous Cobras Softball Team.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm, Friday, December 20, 2024, at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church and from 12:30 until 2pm, Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the church, where a funeral service will begin at 2pm, Pastor Phil Waite and Pastor James Laird officiating.  Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
