Jerry W. Young, 71, rural Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday afternoon at his residence.
He was born in Johnstown, son of the late W. Wayne and Lois E. (Lohr) Young. He married Sandra M. McCall on July 30, 1963 in Woodbury.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years; 2 sons: Brian E. (Michele) of Altoona and Bradley Y. (Sue Fisher) of rural Williamsburg; 3 grandchildren: Tristan Mayhew (husband, Aaron McIntosh), Brandan Young (wife, Kelly) and Bryce Young; a step grand-daughter, Tommi Howard; 3 great-grandchildren: Brayden McIntosh, Emmett and Alexis Young; a brother, David M. Young of Altoona; and a sister, Linda L. Barr of Martinsburg.
Jerry was a 1962 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, a 1968 graduate of Central Missouri College where he received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in education and later earned his Master’s Degree from Shippensburg University.
He retired in 2004 from the Northern Bedford School District as an elementary school teacher with 36 years of service. Jerry had previously worked as a dairy farmer in rural Williamsburg for 17 years, was a Woodbury Township supervisor and served on the Blair County Planning Commission Board. He also owned and operated apartment buildings in Williamsburg.
Jerry was a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, who loved spending time with his family, enjoyed making maple syrup, working outside and attending Penn State wrestling meets.
At the request of the deceased there will be no public services. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to his church.
