Joan M. “Jo” Johnson, 83, Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning, March 25, 2019, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.

She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late John W. and Gladys M. (Walter) Ellenberger.  On August 10, 1957, she married Donald R. Johnson in Hollidaysburg.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 61 years; a son, David S. (Linda) Johnson of State College; three daughters: Brenda Johnson, and Sharon (Mike) Ayers, both of Martinsburg, and Leah (Steve) Ross of Greensburg; eight grandchildren: Cole (Tonya) Johnson, Jena Johnson, Zane (Danielle) Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Janelle (Joseph) Spencer, Benjamin Ayers, David Ross and Mike Ross; three great-grandchildren: Maddox Johnson, Brielle Johnson and Preston Spencer; a sister, Sally (Bud) Keefer of Enola; an aunt, Nancy Kratzer of Warrenton, VA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn Ross; and two sisters: Leah Wertz, and Pauline Gentry.

Jo was a 1953 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, and a 1956 graduate of Germantown Hospital and Dispensary School of Nursing in Philadelphia, where she received her Registered Nursing Degree.

She retired as night supervisor at Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg in 1994, and previously worked at Altoona Hospital, Nason Hospital, The Village of Morrisons Cove, and as a private duty nurse.

Jo was a member of Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren, where she sang in the church choir and served on several committees.  She loved spending time with family and friends and also enjoyed traveling with family, deer hunting, viewing wildlife, and flower gardening.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 pm, Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, and from 10 until the 11 am funeral service, Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren, Pastor Chris Garretson officiating.   Private inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
