John Edward “Ed” Snyder, 77, of James Creek, passed away on May 24, 2018 at his home. He was born on September 19, 1940 in Six Mile Run, the son of Betty (McIntyre) Cypher. Ed was a 1958 graduate of Saxton Liberty Hight School. In 1960, he married Joyce (Hennessey) in Winchester. He served his country, enlisting in the ARMY as a Military Sharp-Shooter. Ed was employed by New Enterprise Stone and Lime as a Bridge Superintendent, he retired in 2006 after 43 years of service. Ed was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, trap shooting with his grandson Alex McConnell, and attending horse shows with his granddaughter Rachael Shoop. Ed was a member of the Saxton VFW, Saxton Sportsman Association, Broad Top American Legion, Everett Lodge #524, and Harrisburg Consistory. Surviving are his wife Joyce; mother Betty of Homewood, Martinsburg; daughter Jan McConnell (Dennis) of James Creek; daughter Julie Keys of Philadelphia; brother Tom Cypher (Kay) of Saxton; sister Bette Belle Parks (Bud) of Mount Union; as well as 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Quinn and Porter, children of granddaughter Rachael and Matthew Shoop. A memorial service will take place on June 9, 2018 at the Saxton United Methodist Church at 11:00AM. Interment will be at the Broad Top Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Ed's name can be made to either the Saxton VFW, Broad Top American Legion, or the Saxton Sportsman Association.
