John H. Over

John H. Over, 98, Woodbury, died Monday, June 17, 2024 at home. He was born January 25, 1926 in Woodbury, son of the late Warren Edward and Roxie (Replogle) Over. He married E. Ruth Snyder on January 28, 1949 in Woodbury. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2018.

Surviving are three children: Edward Over (Glenda) of Florida, Vicki Baxter (Mike) of New Jersey, and Joseph Over (Robin) of Roaring Spring; four grandchildren: Kevin Baxter (Sandy), Jill Taylor (Erin), Brook Over, and Blake Over (Paige); a great-granddaughter, Noelle Baxter; a foster grandson, DJ “Curtis” Jordan; and two sister-in-laws: Tassie Over and Carol Snyder.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Kenneth Over (Madge) and Joseph David Over.

John owned and operated a dairy farm, retiring in 1990. He also drove school bus for 20 years. Following retirement, he and his wife were custodians at the Woodbury Area Community Center for many years.

He was a member of Woodbury Church of the Brethren, where he taught adult Sunday school classes for many years. John’s claim to fame was lighting the Woodbury Community Christmas tree each year.

John was active in bowling, golf, softball, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed attending all his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events, taking care of his garden and flowers, and mowing.

Friends will be received from 5-8PM on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Stone Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Woodbury, and from 10 until the 11AM funeral service on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Woodbury Church of the Brethren. Pastor Janet Sell will officiate. Interment will take place at Dry Hill Cemetery.
