John Ronald Hoover, 83, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday morning, February 6, 2023 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late John R. and Adah Fern (Paul) Hoover. Ron was formerly married to Jane Hoover.

Surviving are a son, Brian R. Hoover (Jenna) of Edina, MN; a daughter, Kim J. Busch (David) of Stephens City, VA; three granddaughters: Kelcie Busch, Avery Busch and Elin Hoover; a sister, Deloris E. Miller of Roaring Spring; and a brother, Dennis P. Hoover of Williamsburg.

Ron was a 1957 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg.  While growing up in the cove, he worked on his family's and neighboring farms along Piney Creek, where he developed his love and skill for gardening and growing fruit trees.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1962 until 1965, attaining the rank of Specialist 5th Class.  After returning home from serving, Ron was employed at the A&P Warehouse in Altoona, until its closing in 1983.  He then worked for many years as a custodian for the Hollidaysburg School District and in 2002, retired from JC Penney’s in Altoona.

Ron loved visiting with family and friends, a good cup of coffee, good food, a cold beer and someone to talk with and share his stories.  He also enjoyed hunting deer, small game and morel mushrooms, baking, canning fruits and vegetables, and more recently playing cards and Wii bowling.

Friends will be received from 10:30am until noon, Thursday, February 9, 2023 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where a funeral service will begin at noon, Pastor Lew I. Button officiating.  Interment with military honors will be held at Salem Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ron may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
