John Frederick Knepp, 91, Martinsburg, passed away peacefully Friday evening, March 1, 2024, at his residence.

He was born in Houserville, son of the late Irvin E. and Clara E. (Houtz) Knepp. On August 24, 1957, he married Shirley A. Smith at Curryville Church of the Brethren. She preceded him in death on November 15, 1998, following 41 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons: Rex A. Knepp (Lori) of Everett and Timothy S. Knepp (Chris) of rural Martinsburg; and four grandchildren: Morgan S. Knepp, Lauren C. Knepp, John-Michael Knepp (Michaela) and Brad Knepp.

John was preceded in death by five brothers: Jack, Ken, Marvin, Jim and Rodney; and four sisters: Lois Smith, Jean Rhodes, Sandra Smith and Joan Knepp.

He was a graduate of State College High School. John was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.  After returning home from serving his country he completed the accounting program through the Altoona School of Commerce.  He was employed as an accountant at Young, Oakes, Brown & CO, PC, in Altoona, for 50 years.

John was a active member of Curryville Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and with the drama group.  He also served as the District Youth Advisor and Representative for the Middle PA District Church of the Brethren to the Annual Conference Standing Committee.

John served his community faithfully, serving as a member and president for both the Martinsburg Booster Assocition and the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park.  He also served as a board member and secretary at Camp Blue Diamond for many years.

He loved spending time with his family and mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Honduras.  John also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bee keeping, traveling, baking, playing church softball, Altoona Curve games and getting away to their camp in Potter County, the Morrisons Cove Lodge.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Thursday, March 7, 2024 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg and from 1until 2pm, Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Curryville Church of the Brethren, where a funeral service will begin at 2pm, Pastor Chris Heinlein officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of John can be made to Camp Blue Diamond Inc., P.O. Box 240, Petersburg, PA 16669 or to Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, 201 South Walnut Street, Martinsburg, PA 16662.
