John R. Miller, 87, of New Enterprise, passed away on November 18, 2018 at UPMC Altoona. He was born on December 24, 1930 in New Enterprise, son of the late J. Warden and Dollie Mae (Morton) Miller. On October 24, 1955 in Front Royal, VA, he married Ethel L. Frederick. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2009. John was a graduate of the Robert P. Smith School and served his country in the Army, being drafted in 1952 and serving on the 325th Heavy Tank Battalion at Camp Irwin, California. He was a Crane Operator for Susquehanna Construction Company for many years. John enjoyed hunting, tinkering on miscellaneous projects after his retirement, and loved the time he spent with his family. He was a member of the Southern Cove Rod and Gun Club and the Bedford American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel and brother Sam Miller. Surviving are nieces and nephews Carolyn Carroll (Earl) of Hopewell, Wendy Miller (Neal Babbs) of Muncy, and Derry Miller (Robbie) of Lancaster; brother Charles Ben Miller (Elsie) of Muncy; special friend and nephew-in-law Jim Ake; as well as numerous nieces and nephews on his wife’s side. Friends will be received on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 10:00-11:00AM. At 11:00AM a Funeral Service will take place. All of the above will be held at the Weaver Funeral Home in Woodbury. Interment will be at Dry Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in John’s name can be made to the Southern Cove Rod and Gun Club.
