John R. Newswanger, 82, of Roaring Spring, passed away Friday Evening, December 29, 2023, at his home. He was born on August 22, 1941 in Lancaster County; son of the late David and Alice (Ringler) Newswanger. On March 29, 1966, he married Mabel (Horst) Newswanger in Bowmansville, Pennsylvania.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by a son, Lloyd Newswanger (Lisa) of Newville; two grandchildren, Brenden of San Diego, California and Rachel at home; brothers, Leroy of Bowmansville, Earl (Alta) of Kentucky, Amos (Edna) of Martinsburg, and Leon (Dianne) of Bowmansville; sisters, Elsie (Morris Ramer) of Missouri, Ruth of Bowmansville, Susie (John Aaron Shirk) of Goodville, Faye (David Esh) of Florida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Lavon; and a brother, Lester (Bertha) of Indiana.
John was a long-time dairy farmer and owned Newswanger’s Bike Shop. He was a member of the Old Order Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 2:00PM-4:00PM and 6:00PM-8:00PM at the Newswanger Residence (162 Emory Oak Ln, Roaring Spring, PA 16673). Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 beginning at 9:30AM at the Martinsburg Old Older Mennonite Church (2007 Cove Lane Rd.) Martinsburg, PA 16662).
