John E. Stonerook

John E. Stonerook, 87, rural Martinsburg passed into life eternal Friday morning at Golden Living Center-Hillview, Altoona.
He was born in rural Martinsburg, son of the late D. Irvin and Fannie (Snyder) Stonerook. On August 27, 1955 he married Jean L. Meiklejohn in Altoona.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years; a daughter, Karen Sell (Jeffrey) of Duncansville; a son, Dwight Stonerook (Hope) of Leesburg, VA; and 4 grandchildren: Michael and Bryant Sell and Adam and Lydia Stonerook.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Lloyd, Jacob and Earl.
John was a 1947 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg and an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.
He retired in 1994 as a Martinsburg rural letter carrier with 17 years of service. John had also worked as a poultry farmer, Spring Cove School bus driver, appliance repairman and helped people prepare income taxes for VITA.
John was a member of the former Martinsburg Lions Club, Martinsburg Boosters, Everett Do Si Dos Square Dance Club and had formerly served on the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park Board.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and discussions in his Sunday school class.
Friends will be received from 6-8pm, Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and from 1 until the 2pm funeral service Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the church, Pastor Ed Harshbarger officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
