He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles A. and E. Ethel (Shadle) McChessney.  On August 19, 1967, he married Deborah F. Frye at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Deb of 57 years; three sons: Darrin M. McChessney (Jaculin), Travis M. McChessney (Catherine) and Ryan M. McChessney (Stephanie) all of Williamsburg; twelve grandchildren: Dominic, Brook (Brandon), Avery, Garrett (Laurie), Kassidy (Josiah), Afton, Riley, Mason, Brighten, Isaiah, Noah, Zorianna and Martin; and a great-granddaughter, Lilith.

He was the last survivor of his immediate family, being preceded in death by two sisters: Geraldine Snyder and Frances Helsley; seven brothers: Warren, Edward, Fred, W. Glenn, Karl, Clarence, and infant Harold; four half-sisters: Venna Yonkonski, Ruth Heimbach, Agnes Wolf, and Emma Hankins; and three half-brothers: Leo, Jimmy and Alvin McChessney.

He was a 1962 graduate of Williamsburg High School.  Joe was a member of the Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, where he sang in the church choir.

Joe completed his electrical apprenticeship with Neff Electric and over the years worked for various electrical contractors. He more recently worked on his own and did a lot of electrical work throughout the area.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were always getting picked on by their pappy.  Joe also enjoyed singing, fishing and drinking coffee with the guys while they solved all the world’s problems at Martins and Nic’s in Williamsburg.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Friday, January 17, 2025 at the Williamsburg Church of the Brethren and from 10 until 11am, Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the church, where a funeral service will begin at 11am, Pastor Alan E. Brumbaugh officiating.  Interment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

Contributions in memory of Joe may be given to the Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, 529 W. Third St., Williamsburg, PA 16693.
