Joseph E. Zehner

Joseph E. Zehner, 60, of Williamsburg, died Monday morning, September 30, 2002, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born July 11, 1942, in Effingham, Illinois, son of the late Joseph A. and Elsie (Miller) Zehner. He married Darlene K. Grove on March 25, 1964, at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia.
Mr. Zehner was of the Catholic faith and was affiliated with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg.
He was employed as a van driver for Blair Senior Services in Williamsburg and other Blair County areas. He retired as a prison guard from Huntingdon State Correctional Institution in 1997, after 13 years of service.
Mr. Zehner was a 1960 graduate of Roxana High School, Roxana, Illinois.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Armed Forces from 1960 to 1982, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Zehner enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing, gardening, and watching sports, especially football and baseball.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene; three daughters: Sonya Michelone and Michelle Zehner, both of Atlanta and Debra Zehner of Williamsburg; a son, Joseph M. Zehner of Atlanta; four grandchildren: Lindsey, Abbey, Delaney, and Dylan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Zehner and a brother, Joseph Charles Zehner.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 pm, October 2, 2002, at Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held in the evening. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am, October 3, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg, by the Rev. Bernard L. White. Committal will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Williamsburg.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Williamsburg Ambulance Club.
