Karen M. (Swope) Walter, 69, of Altoona, passed away on November 25, 2024 at Hilltop Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center – Altoona. She was born on December 20, 1954 in Roaring Spring; daughter of the late Earl Donald Sr. and Peggy (Albright) Swope.
Karen was a graduate of Northern Bedford County High School and member of the Waterside Church of the Brethren. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Morrisons Cove Home. Karen enjoyed fishing, knitting and crocheting, book reading, casino slot machines, and time spent with her grandchildren.
Karen was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Donald Swope, Jr.; and her children, Peggy Welsh, Ashley Walter, and Aaron Walter. Surviving is son, James Walter (Whitney) of Texas; brother, Arthur Swope (Linda) of Martinsburg; brother, Raymond Swope (Pamela) of Texas; sister, Beverly Swope of Martinsburg; grandchildren, Rhiley, Ryder, Logan, Lukas, and Trinity; ex-husband, James Leroy Walter, Sr.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and others who loved her.
Friends will be received on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM Celebration of Life Service at the Stone Funeral Home in Woodbury; Pastor Eric Poteat officiating. Inurnment will be in Diehl’s Crossroads Cemetery.
If so desired, Memorial Contribution in Karen’s name may be made to Stone Funeral Home to help the family with final funeral expenses.
