Kenneth R. “Ken” Fry
March 13, 1945 ~ January 27, 2024
Kenneth R. “Ken” Fry, 78, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, January 27, 2024, at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center.
He was born in Ephrata, son of the late Walter and Irene (Unruh) Fry. On September 9, 1968, he married Constance M. “Connie” Bridenbaugh at Memorial Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Connie, of 55 years; two sons: Jeffrey A. Fry of Pittsburgh and Jonathan R. Fry (Laura) of Moon Township; three grandchildren: Lila, Kalvin, and Carson; four siblings: Donald Fry, Carol Dobes, Timothy Fry, and Thomas Fry; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Margaret Hassan and Mary Sue Metz.
Mr. Fry was a member of the Martinsburg Mennonite Church.
Ken was a 1964 graduate of Central High School. In 1967, he was drafted into the US Army, where he served with distinction in the 173rd Airborne Division and was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran.
He worked as an electrician before switching careers to dairy farming, where he would spend the next 27 years, successfully operating a dairy farm with the help of his wife, Connie.
Ken’s interests and hobbies were rich and varied. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Ken had a passion for music, singing, and enjoyed his time as a member of the Altoona Horseshoe Chorus, as well as various barbershop quartets, and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He also enjoyed woodworking, repairing old clocks, hunting, maintaining Purple Martin bird houses on the farm, and cross-country adventures on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
Ken will be remembered for his humble, calm, and reserved nature, which stood in contrast to his surprising sense of humor and well-timed dry wit.
Friends will be received from 10:30am to 12 noon, Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Martinsburg Mennonite Church, where a funeral service with military honors will begin at 12 noon, Pastor Joseph Furry officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Ken can be made to the Barbershop Harmony Society, P.O. Box 24030, Nashville, TN 37202 or to K9s for Warriors, 114 Camp K9 Road, Ponte Verda, FL 32081.
