Laura Grace Gunnett, 94, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Clappertown, rural Williamsburg, went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday afternoon at Homewood.

She was born in Hominy, Osage County, OK, daughter of the late John R. and Delight Rosetta (Bailey) Ross. She married Willard Clinton Gunnett on August 10, 1946 in Williamsburg.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 69 years of Homewood; 2 sons: Ronald E. (Donna Jean) of rural Williamsburg, and John W. (Nan) of Hummelstown; 2 daughters: Sharon R. Snare (Wayne) of Wichita, KS, and Judith D. Greene (Bill) of Punxsutawney; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Gunnett; a brother, John D. and 2 sisters; Marjorie D. Ecord and Roberta Kuhn.

Laura Grace was a 1938 graduate of Chanute High School, Chanute, KS and a graduate of Penn State University where she received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.

She served in the Women’s Army Corps during WW II in Manila and New Guinea.

Laura Grace created the first kindergarten class for the Martinsburg School District in which she taught for many years. She retired as an elementary school teacher from Horace Mann Elementary School, Indiana County, and had a total of over 20 years of teaching.

She was a long time member of the Clappertown CMA Church, and also was an avid sports enthusiast, who enjoyed Penn State Football, and all high school sports. She also enjoyed oil painting, and water color media.

Friends will be received from 2-5 pm, Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the Clappertown CMA Church, rural Williamsburg where a funeral service will be held at 2pm, Monday, December 28, 2015, Pastor Vaughn R. Kanagy officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Clappertown CMA Church, 3239 Piney Creek Rd., Williamsburg, PA 16693.
