Leon I. Pepple, 68, of Punxsutawney (formerly of Woodbury), passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 18 just after 10:00 PM at the Village at Morrisons Cove in Martinsburg. He was born on January 13, 1955 in Altoona; the oldest child of Audrey (Showalter) Pepple and the late Roy Pepple.

Leon was a Class of 1972 graduate of Northern Bedford High School. He served our country in the United States Air Force from 1975-1980. He was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Johnson County, Missouri, where he was part of the Strategic Air Command. He achieved the rank of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge.

Leon retired in 2005 from the New Enterprise Stone & Lime Corp., where he drove fuel truck and tri-axle for many years.

Leon was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening and canning his own meat and produce. He was a proud member of the Military Veterans Outdoors (MVO) organization. In his retirement, Lee took up beekeeping with fellow MVO member and friend Bob Michael, and kept honeybees both on the MVO property and at his home. He started his own business, Grandpa Lee’s Honey, in 2020.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy.

Surviving are his wife, Amy (Groff) Pepple, of Punxsutawney; mother, Audrey Pepple, of Duncansville; son, Andrew (husband of Jamie) Pepple of New Enterprise; brother Roger (husband of Natalie) Pepple of Roaring Spring; sister Deanna (wife of Rodney) Clapper of Woodbury; Teresa Laratonda of East Freedom; grandchildren Greyson and Evangeline; nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.

Friends will be received on Thursday, January 26th from 4PM - 7PM and Friday, January 27th from 10AM - 11AM at the Stone Funeral Home in Woodbury. A Memorial Service will be held immediately following the Friday morning visitation, at 11AM, with Pastor Millie Baker officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leon’s name can be made to the Military Veterans Outdoors organization, ℅ Bob Michael, 306 Hillcrest Drive, Dubois, PA 15801.
