OBIT.

LESTER E. STEELE, 89 of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Loysburg. Died unexpectedly 01/20/2014 at Homewood. Born 11/16/1926 in New Enterprise, the son of James and Catherine (Hall) Steele. Married Thelma (Ebersole) on 01/29/1944 will be 70 years ago in the Methodist Parsonage in Martinsburg. He was a member of the Loysburg United Methodist Church. He was employed as a Farmer, Owner of Steele’s Hardware Store, Painting Contractor, Maintenance Supervisor at the NBCSD, a Brick and stone Mason and installed Milking systems and Storm Windows. He was a 59 year member of the cove Lions Club and held many offices, he was the District Governor of 14L in 1971-72. He and his wife have attended 49 Lions International conventions in the US and over the World. Also member of the Lions International Pin Traders, former Member of the IOOF and the Southern Cove Fire Co. and for many years served as financial and Member Secretary. He enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, Playing bingo, cards and other games, he was a avid traveler who had been to all fifty states several times and to 25 countries.
Survivors: his wife, four daughters; Sherry wife of Roy Snoke of York PA, Patricia wife of Ralph Scott of Hopewell Rd, Cindy wife of Jeffrey Krill of Allentown and Mitzi wife of Don Heaton of York PA, two sisters Eleanor Ebersole of New Enterprise and Willa Shaffer of Curryville, Seven Grandchildren and nine Great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers: Robert, Bruce, Claude and Leon one sister Harriet Davis.
Friends Received 1-2 pm at Homewood Chapel then 6-8 pm at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren all on the 23rd and 10 – 11am Friday the 24th at the church where an 11am service will be held by pastor Michael Dawes. Interment in the Salemville Cemetery. Memorials maybe made to the American Cancer Society or the Loysburg United Methodist church. Arrangements by the S. Gerald Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury PA
