Luther O. Steele

Luther O. Steele, 90, of Martinsburg, formerly of New Enterprise, passed away on November 7, 2020 at the Village at Morrisons Cove. He was born on September 17, 1930 in Hopewell Twp.; son of the late John I. and Ethel F. (Miller) Steele Reighard. Luther was a graduate of the Robert P. Smith High School, Class of 1948. He served 2 years in the 1-W Service and was a lifetime Dairy Farmer. Luther was a member of the Woodbury Church of the Brethren and formerly served at the Yellow Creek and Koontz Churches of the Brethren. Throughout the years, Luther served as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, Worship Leader, Deacon and various other committees. He volunteered with the Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief and the Village at the Morrisons Cove. Luther was an Agway Committeeman, served on the NBC School Board, and was on the Advisory Board of the Everett Bank, New Enterprise Branch. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, gardening, and puzzles. Luther was preceded in death by a sister Ella Snyder. Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy “Dottie” (Diehl) Steele; son, James Steele (Louise) of Brownstown; son, Philip Steele (Cindy) of Newburg; daughter, Linda Johnson (David) of State College; as well as 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 1:00-2:00PM. At 2:00PM a Funeral Service will take place with Rev. David Ulm and Rev. Philip Steele officiating. All of the above will be held at the Woodbury Church of the Brethren. Private Interment will be in Steele Cemetery, Hopewell. If so desired, Memorial Contributions in Luther’s name can be made to the Woodbury Church of the Brethren. Arrangements by Weaver Funeral Home, LLC (weaversfh.com); Woodbury.
