Margaret Joan Steele

     Margaret Joan Steele left this world on April 9, 2026, at the age of 96. She was born on October 6, 1929, to Richard and Luella (Garber) Kensinger. She married the late Harold “Shorty” Steele in 1947, and they raised two children, Russell Steele of Florida and Sherry Steele (Glenn) Roth of South Carolina. She lived 89 years in or near Martinsburg, PA before moving to South Carolina. In addition to her children, Joan is survived by sister Linda Morris of Michigan, and brothers Rich (Paula) Kensinger of Pennsylvania and Jerry Kensinger of Florida. She was also very fond of her niece Cindy (Dan) Hoover. Joan has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

    Joan loved volunteering in her later years, teaching reading to adult students through the Blair County Literacy Council, helping in the Martinsburg Community Library, Nason Hospital, and The Village at Morrisons Cove. She enjoyed painting, especially watercolors.

     A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.  In lieu of flowers, Joan would appreciate a contribution made to the Martinsburg Community Library, 201 South Walnut Street, Martinsburg, PA 16662.
