Mary Irene Bassler, 89, resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away Thursday evening at the home.

She was born in Fredericksburg, daughter of the late James Lee and Anna F. (Fouse) Brumbaugh.  On August 3, 1947 she married James Weldon “Brub” Bassler at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg.  He preceded her in death on January 8, 2008.

Surviving are 3 sons: James H. (Mid) of rural Martinsburg, Donald E. (Jolene) of Curryville and Jerre L. of Hollidaysburg; 5 grandchildren: Donna Kimmich, Debbie Knee, Kevin, Dusty and Derek Bassler; and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Thelma G. Ayers and Hazel M. Corle; and a brother, James C. Brumbaugh.

Mary was a 1945 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg.

She was a lifetime member and deacon of Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, where she also served as chorister, cherub chorus director and taught Sunday school.

Mary was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and reading.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg and from 10 until the 11am funeral service, Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the church, Pastor David F. Banaszak and Chaplain Linda S. Banaszak officiating.  Private interment will be held at Brumbaugh Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to her church or The Good Samaritan Fund at The Village at Morrisons Cove.
