Mary Cynthia “Cindy” (Ball) Smith-Detwiler, 76, of Martinsburg, passed away Thursday evening, July 4, 2024, at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Robert F. and Mary Jacqueline (Detrick) Ball. She was first married on June 5, 1971, to James S. Smith, who preceded her in death on September 10, 2023, and then married Kenneth G. Detwiler on August 5, 2006, at the Assembly of God Church, Roaring Spring.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 17 years, Ken, of Martinsburg; a daughter, Kathryn L. “Katie” Thomas, of Martinsburg; a son, James R. Smith, of rural Martinsburg; four grandchildren: Mary Sue Thomas (Sean Houston), Cody James Wicker, Carrie Anne Wicker, and Collin Ray Wicker; three step-sons: Bryan G. Detwiler (Dawn), Andrew J. Detwiler (Dawn), and Thomas D. Detwiler (Tammy); six step-grandchildren: Shannon Detwiler, Jacob Detwiler, Jamie Detwiler, David Detwiler, Andrew Detwiler Jr., and Shelby Dawn Detwiler; and her beloved dog, Missy.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles Thomas and a daughter-in-law, Georganne (Corle) Wicker.
Cindy was a 1965 graduate of Altoona High School and in 1967 earned a certificate in licensed practical nursing from the Altoona School of Nursing. Cindy worked for a few years at the Valley View Nursing Home, Altoona, until she became at stay-at-home mom, to raise their children. She later went back to work at Homewood at Martinsburg for 22 years, until her retirement in 2011.
She was a member of the Martinsburg Church of God.
Cindy loved spending time with her family, crocheting and crafting, especially crafts with glitter. She also enjoyed creating teddy bears that she would share at Christmas time.
A memorial service is being planned and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
