Mary T. Merritts 76, of Altoona, formerly of Williamsburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. She was born on October 27, 1949 in Altoona, a daughter of the late Stewart M. Sr. and Ruth C. (Baker) Merritts. She is survived by three siblings: Stewart M. Merritts Jr. and wife Elisa of Lovettsville, VA; Ellen Jane Aurandt and husband Rusty, Michael D. Merritts and wife Lori, both of Williamsburg; 9 nieces and nephews: Steven Rodriguez, Olivia Aurandt, Isaiah Aurandt, Maggie Merritts, Abbie Merritts, Katie Merritts, Sarah Auberzinski, Ryan Auberzinki, and Emily Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her stepmother Viola M. Merritts.
Mary was a 1967 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce where she studied to be a medical secretary. She spent most of her life residing in Harrisburg where she worked as a medical transcriptionist for Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, and later Rite Aid. Mary adored all animals, birds, and especially her dear pets, dog Bullet and cat Shaquille. She found great joy in life, in her Lutheran faith, and the many blessings God had given her. Mary loved the tradition of letter writing and sending cards, botanicals such as plants and flowers, gardening, listening to music, watching the Philadelphia Eagles, and spending time with her family. Mary was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg PA and attended Our Savior Lutheran Church. Harrisburg.
Friends will be received on Sunday, February 8, 2026 from 3-6 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church, 217 Plum Street, Williamsburg, where funeral services will begin at 6:00 pm with Rev. John Kratz officiating. Private burial at Presbyterian Cemetery, Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, PA or the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Altoona, PA.
