Patricia J. Scott

March 17, 1949 — February 14, 2020

Patricia J. Scott, 70, of the Northern Bedford County community, died on Friday, February 14, 2020, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Patricia (Pat) was born on March 17, 1949, in Roaring Spring, daughter of Lester E. and Thelma F. (Ebersole) Steele. On November 28, 1970, she married Ralph R. Scott in New Enterprise. She is survived by her husband; son Shawn and wife Melissa (Shaffer) of York; daughter Shalonne and husband Chris Sipes of Hopewell Twp.; and daughter Kecia of Woodbury. She is also survived by six grandchildren: granddaughters Alivia, Addison, Alaina, Ava, and Tiffany; and a grandson, Breslin; sisters Cindy Krill (Jeff) and Mitzi Heaton (Don). Pat was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sherry (Steele) Snoke.

Pat was a 1967 graduate of Northern Bedford County High School and a 1970 graduate of Shippensburg State College with a dual major in elementary education and library science. She retired from NBC School District in 2005 after serving for many years as the elementary librarian. Pat then became a substitute teacher for Southern Fulton School District for approximately five years after retirement.

Pat was a member of Pa. Assoc. of School Retirees, a lifelong member of Loysburg United Methodist Church and later Bedford Forge UMC, and served as communion steward and children’s Sunday School teacher at Loysburg UMC. Pat was also president of The Northern Bedford Education Foundation, supporting the students and programs of NBCSD.

While teaching, Pat was known for establishing the library as a focal point of the elementary school and for instilling a love of reading in her students. Her reading competition teams won many county competitions and together with her colleagues, she successfully hosted a number of highly recognized children’s books writers as visiting authors.

Pat was well-known in the community for her volunteerism, her warm and friendly personality, her love of family and church, and for her passion for flowers. Students called her home “the place with all the flowers.” She gladly shared her plants with many others and was proud to have her home once named “Garden of the Month.” Her goals in life were to serve God and to build memories with her grandchildren and her family.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at New Enterprise Church of the Brethren with Pastor Nancy Goff officiating. Viewing was at the church from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, and from 10:00 a.m. to time of service on Wednesday. Burial was at Loysburg Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Weaver Funeral Home, LLC (weaversfh.com); Woodbury.
