Patricia (Pat) Louise Oakes Allen, 93, passed from this life from what she once commented to her daughter, Tricia, were "The Indignities of Old Age".
Pat's life "came full circle". Born at her grandparent's farm on January 11,1933 in Jack's Corner, Pa.; she wandered far, but returned to Jack's Corner to live out her later years passing away peacefully at home on March 25, 2026.
As with anyone living to her "advanced age", Pat led an interesting and varied life. She studied at Penn State before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1951. She trained as a radar operator at Kessler AFB, MS and was assigned to Fort Snelling, MN. She met and married Carl E. Whitaker and after separating from the service in 1953, his assignments took them to Alaska, California and Florida. They went their separate ways in Florida and she moved to Washington DC and was employed as a Logistics Clerk at Bolling AFB, MD. While at Bolling, she met and married Kenneth E. Allen and the family moved to Manassas, VA in 1965. She returned to college, majoring in hotel/restaurant management. Pat and Ken separated in 1988 and she moved the family back home to Jacks Corner. While she continued to work in the restaurant industry, she started doing family research and found her true passion in life, genealogy. She communicated with people from all over the country; traveled to Canada, England, Wales and many states; and, roped in any family member she could to assist her research. She turned this love into a career as a professional genealogist and worked for the Hoenstine Rental Library in Hollidaysburg, PA until their closing. This passion lasted until the "Indignities" took her from us.
Patricia had seven children. Daughters Laurel Whitaker (Colbert), Lisa Whitaker, Tricia Allen and Jennifer Allen Ballin (deceased); and sons Shawn Whitaker (deceased), Shane Allen and Tracey Allen. Grandchildren Jason Colbert, Julienne Colbert Reid, Jesse Colbert Tanner, Casey Ballin, Chelsea Ballin, and Christina Ballin; and 8 great-grandchildren.
We will miss our Mom, our Granpatty; a smart, courageous, determined, funny woman who at times could be a ‘teensy tiny bit curmudgeonly’ but was our rock on which we could stand in good times and bad.
