Randel W. Gensamer, 70, Altoona, died unexpectedly Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Los Angeles, CA, son of Charles S. Jr. and Rae N. (Watson) Gensamer. On May 6, 1978, he married the love of his life, Naomi R. Shaw in Altoona, and she preceded him in death on June 28, 2016.

Surviving are his mother of Altoona; a sister, Cindy R. Barton of Altoona; an aunt, B.J. Gaudreau in Nevada; nieces and nephews: Gill III (Stephanie), Stacey (Corey), and Geoff (Christina) Barton; great-nieces and great-nephews: Gil IV, Riley, Stella and Scarlett Barton; and his former brother-in-law, Gil Barton II.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Dan.

Randel was a 1967 Altoona Area High School graduate. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in State College.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the Thundering Third Battalion, 4th Regiment. Randal was a disabled veteran and received three Purple Hearts with two Gold Stars and several other commendations.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League; was active with the Toys for Tots program; and he was a member of numerous other organizations.

Randell enjoyed motorcycles, drag bike racing, fast cars, collecting sports memorabilia and watching Sunday football, especially the Steelers.

A private funeral service, with military honors, will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
