Raymond "Ray" L. Wineland

October 13, 1948 — September 2, 2025

Martinsburg

Raymond L. Wineland 76, of Martinsburg passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Homewood in Martinsburg following debilitating effects of advanced prostate cancer and associated treatments. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betsyann (Mock) Wineland; the love of his life, his daughter Melissa Ann Campbell and husband Kevin Lavon, of Cumberland, MD; two amazing grandchildren: Ashlan Rayne Thompson (fiancé, Stas Lipinski) and Derek Braden Thompson (Hallee Lewun) and his God sent sister Helen Teeters Baker as well several nieces/nephews. Also, brothers-in-law, Bret, Bart and Brad Mock and families.

“Uncle Ray” as he was known to many, was a devoted husband, protector, and provider. His occupations included farming, long distance trucking, dispatching, oil delivery and one of his favorites, snowplow driving. In sixty years of driving, he never incurred a speeding ticket or driving violation. He was a member of the Central High School Class of 1966. A man of few words but strong convictions, Ray lived out his Christian faith and service to God by daily example. He loved Pittsburgh Pirate baseball from childhood and likely missed his calling to become a play-by-play broadcaster or umpire.

In addition to his family, Ray will be missed by his childhood best friend Herman Edwards (Bonnie), the brother he always wanted Donald Hoover (Candy) and the neighbor he loved like a son, Tim Laird (Jessi) and his entire family. He was honored to have both of his grandchildren bear his name along with newborn Karsyn Rae Heeter (Jenna/Dakota). Ray and his wife are also Godparents to Amber Kaye Shade (Tracey/Jim).

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a charitable donation in Ray’s memory to The Anchored in Faith Foundation or John’s Way Medical Equipment Ministry, both located in Martinsburg.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 pm at the Givler Chapel at Homewood, where a funeral service will begin at 4:00 pm with Pastor Jerry McCuller and Pastor James Laird officiating. Private interment at Holsinger Church Cemetery. Arrangements by the Fink & Stone Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Woodbury.
