Richard F. “Dick” Leidy

Richard F. “Dick” Leidy, 84, of Henrietta, rural Martinsburg, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018, at UPMC Altoona, following a brief illness.

He was born in Martinsburg, son of the late Glenn S. and Ruth (Teeter) Leidy.  On August 16, 1953, he married Lydia M. Ayers in Martinsburg and she preceded him in death on July 10, 2010.

Surviving are a son, Frank D. Leidy (Barb) of Martinsburg; two granddaughters: Erin N. Stroz (Brian) of Salix and Jessica L. Weyant (Nate) of rural Martinsburg; four great-grandchildren: Hunter and Blaine Stroz and Maddox and Blakely Weyant; six siblings: JoAnne Love of Delmont, Ronald G. and William D. both of rural Williamsburg, Elinor R. Gerhart of New Castle, DE, Sharon K. Long of New Oxford, and Gerald T. “Book” of Martinsburg; special friends, Dennis Dilling and Ruhama Willey, both of Martinsburg; and his beloved cat, Hottie.

Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Robert R. Leidy.

He was a graduate of Morrison Cove High School and a member of Mt. Pleasant United Church of Christ and was currently attending Salem United Church of Christ, both in rural Martinsburg.

Dick started as a boy, working for his father at their family furniture business, Leidy’s Home Furnishings in Martinsburg. Over time he became the owner/operator of the business, where he truly loved going to work every day and “making the sale”.

He was a member of the Martinsburg Boosters Association and always gave generously to other local organizations.

Dick loved spending time with his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren and also enjoyed supporting and attending Central sporting events.

Friends will be received from 1-3 pm and 5-8 pm, Friday, April 6, 2018, at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Salem United Church of Christ, 4054 Clover Creek Rd, Martinsburg, Pastor Betty J. Royer officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, 201 S. Walnut St., Martinsburg.
