Robert Louis “Bob” Korona, 90, of Martinsburg, passed away Thursday morning, September 26, 2024, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.

He was born in Pittsburgh, son of the late Louis Wade and Lois Burnham Korona. On June 22, 1957, he married Sylvia J. Smith in Tionesta, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2024, following 67 years of marriage.

Surviving are three daughters: Linda L. Korona of Parma Heights, OH, Katherine L. Cason of State College, and Lisa J. Decker (Jack) of Harmony; four grandchildren: Robert Guard, Melissa McCraw (Carson), Marissa Decker, and Jacqueline Kissinger (A.J.); a great-grandson due to arrive in April; and a sister, Lois Ann Diehl, Broken Arrow, OK.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Louise Korona.

Mr. Korona was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Roaring Spring.

Bob was a 1952 graduate of Allderdice High School, Pittsburgh. In 1956, he received a Bachelor of Agricultural Education from Penn State University; where he also went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Agricultural Education.  In 1956, Bob began teaching Agriculture at Morrisons Cove High School (Bean Hill). When the schools consolidated to Central High School, he remained as the Agriculture teacher, where he proudly taught for 36 years. During his teaching career, he was actively involved with FFA, and also assisted with the creation of the Girl’s Track Team that started in the 1970s, and Garver YMCA Swim Team.

He was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association and received the Degree of Honorary State Farmer through Future Farmers of America. Bob’s career also allowed him to enjoy his own farm, where along his wife and daughters, they raised horses, steers, pigs, beagles, and maintained a large garden.

Bob loved spending time with his wife, Sylvia, their daughters and grandchildren. He and Sylvia also shared a great joy watching Penn State Athletics, especially the Penn State Girls Basketball Team. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his children and grandchildren. He was a master woodcarver, creating beautiful songbird and duck replicas and also enjoyed reading daily and watching old Westerns.

A private memorial service will be held at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, and private inurnment will be held at Clarion Cemetery.
