Robert (Bob) W. Detwiler

Robert (Bob) W. Detwiler, 84, of New Enterprise, passed away Saturday June 27, 2020 at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient due to complications from COVID-19. Bob was a beloved friend to all who knew him. Now in his permanent home, he is carefree and healthy, forever praising his Lord and Savior. Bob’s waves and smiles will be dearly missed.

Bob was born in New Enterprise, PA on March 1, 1936, a son of the late Merle C. and Elda M. (Replogle) Detwiler, and he married, on September 6, 1958, his high school sweetheart, Carol Dawn (Clouse) Detwiler who survives along with his children, Brian R. Detwiler and wife Daisy (Saca) Detwiler of Lancaster; Dawn M. Housel of Everett and Todd A. Detwiler. He has four grandchildren, Ashley (Housel) Johnson and husband Matthew Johnson of Rockville, MD; Ian Housel of Everett; Stephanie Detwiler of Lancaster and Christopher Detwiler of Lancaster.

Also surviving are sisters Della Mae Grubb married to Ray E. Grubb of New Enterprise, Wanda J. Amick married to Ronald Amick (deceased) of Mt. Joy, and a brother Allen M. Detwiler of New Enterprise.

Bob graduated from Replogle High School in 1954 and earned degrees in agriculture from Penn State University and McPherson College, Kansas, and received his Master’s Degree of Theology from Bethany Seminary, Illinois.

Bob has worked as a minister, social worker, counselor and dairy farmer. Over the years, Bob served on multiple boards where he was a strong advocate for agriculture, community planning and historical preservation.

Bob was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren.

Due to the current public health risks, a private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with a public life celebration planned when conditions are appropriate.

Interment will be at the Salemville Cemetery.
