Robert W. Bechtel

Robert W. Bechtel, 75, of New Enterprise, passed away on October 26, 2018 at UPMC Altoona. He was born on June 7, 1943 in New Enterprise, son of the late Warren and Idessa (Snyder) Bechtel. On March 11, 1961 in New Enterprise, he married Betty L. Gates who survives. Robert was a 1961 graduate of Smith School and a dairy farmer by trade. He was an active member of the Koontz Church of the Brethren, holding various positions including deacon. Robert enjoyed hunting, farming, spending time with his family at Parker Dam, and was a member of the Ravers Gap Sportsman’s Club. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, infant brother, and brothers Donald and Glen Bechtel. Surviving are his wife Betty; daughter Karen Eshelman (Thomas) of New Enterprise; daughter Sherri Fisher (David) of Hopewell; son John Bechtel (Kim) of New Enterprise; daughter Julie Ott (Kevin) of Hopewell; brother John Bechtel (Lucretia) of Florida; as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 5:00-8:00PM and Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 10:00-11:00AM. At 11:00AM Tuesday a Funeral Service will take place with Pastors Mike Benner and Philip Steele officiating. All of the above will be held at the Koontz Church of the Brethren. Interment will be in the Koontz Church of the Brethren Cemetery. If so desired, Memorial Contributions in Robert’s name can be made to the Koontz Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
