Rodney D. Shaw, 92, Martinsburg, passed away Thursday afternoon at his home following an extended illness.

He was born in McKee, son of the late H. Orville and M. Harriet (Marker) Shaw.  He married Marian C. “Katie” Burns on October 27, 1977 in Cumberland, MD.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 38 years; other surviving family are; Phyllis Snyder and family; Connie and Eric Shaw and family; Donnie and Robin Stern and family; a brother, E. Elvin (Wilma) of Duncansville; 2 sisters: Donna Dunsmore (J.R.) of Palm Harbor, FL and Jean Dodson of Claysburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Warren “Jack”, Max, Barry, Terry, and William; and a sister, Iris Wilt.

Rodney as a teenager joined the Civilian Conservation Corps for a year and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946, where he served in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific, attaining the rank of Gunner’s Mate 1st Class.

He drove truck and was a diesel mechanic for many years, with New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company and also was an independent truck driver/owner.

Rodney was a member of the Juniata Lodge #282 F&AM, Hollidaysburg, where he served as past worshipful master, and was a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite.  He also was a member of the Altoona Consistory Valley of Altoona and was a noble in the Jaffa Shrine and Temple, Altoona.

He enjoyed flying as a private pilot, traveling, was an avid reader, and was a very talented string instrument musician who loved playing bluegrass music.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Monday, March 7, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.  A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the funeral home, Pastor John Bennett officiating.  Interment with full military honors accorded by the Blair County Veteran’s Honor Guard will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, C/O The Jaffa Shrine, 2200 Broad Ave., Altoona, PA  16601.
