Ronald D. Reid, 85, rural Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly Wednesday evening at his home.

He was born in Huntingdon, son of the late Doyle Edgar and Mae Elva (Dick) Reid. He married Sara L. Gates on September 8, 1953.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years; a daughter, Kimberly J. Unger (husband, Paul) of Niles, OH; a granddaughter, Kandace D. Sollenberger (husband, Jason) of Clappertown; 2 great-grandchildren: Alyssa T. and Kaleb P. Sollenberger; a brother, Gerald Reid (wife, Rosemary) of Saxton.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1954 until 1956 attaining the rank of Specialist 4th class and received the Army Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Reid attended the Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church for many years and was a 32nd degree mason at the Everett Lodge #524 F&AM.

He was a graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School and received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in education from the Penn State University.

Ron retired in 1995 from the Northern Bedford High School as a Power Mechanics Teacher with 31 years of service. While teaching he also worked during the summer with Grannas Brothers Stone & Asphalt and prior to teaching Ron had worked for the Ford Motor Company.

He loved motorcycles and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his cars.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 am, Monday, March 7, 2016, Pastor James S. Laird Sr. officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Holsinger Cemetery, Bakers Summit.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Mending Hearts Animal Rescue, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or the Gideon’s International Bible Ministry.
