Ruth E. Conrad

Ruth E. Conrad, 97, passed away Saturday morning, January 18, 2025 at The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville.
She was born in Belleville, daughter of the late Frank and Zella (Zook) Yoder and moved to Maple Hollow, Duncansville in 1940.
Ruth was twice married, first to Melvin Stewart in 1946 and together they had three children and then to Glenn Conrad in 1958 and they had a son. Melvin passed away on February 27, 1954 and Glenn died on February 25, 2006.
Surviving are four children: Marsha Bookhammer (Ronald), Dennis Conrad (Barbara), Pamela Wilt (Dennis) and Brent Conrad (Cathy); six grandchildren: Shawn Bookhammer (Megan), Erik Conrad (Jessica), Susan Wang (Daniel), Brandi Hampton (Joshua), Timothy Musselman and Caitlin Filer (Shane); 17 great-grandchildren: Kelsie Lego, Trey Bookhammer, Camryn Miller, Cody Bookhammer, Caleb Bookhammer, Alexis Bookhammer, Kolton Conrad, Brock Conrad, Sadie Conrad, Emily Wang, Elise Wang, Kaden Conrad, Claire Conrad, Eli Conrad, Natalie Musselman, Everleigh Albright and Dalton Musselman; four great-great-grandchildren: Ryker Lego, Kassidy Lego, Tate Miller and Beckham Bookhammer; and a sister, Mildred Reese (Patrick).
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Bookhammer; two sisters: LaVerda Bigelow and husband, Dave, Clair Reed and husband, Ray; and two brothers: Franklin Yoder and wife, Betty and Samuel Yoder and wife, Ruth.
Ruth was very active member of the Newry Lutheran Church. As a teenager, she worked at Hoffmens in Altoona. Ruth later was employed in the cafeteria at the Hollidaysburg Junior and Senior High School, where she sold year books. She also sold Lutheran insurance policies for the Aid Association for Lutherans and books for Scholastic Books, where she won many awards for her salesmanship. Ruth volunteered with the drug and alcohol planning council while working for the Aid Association for Lutherans.
She loved flowers, watching birds, reading, traveling and sitting around her pond watching the fish. Ruth also enjoyed watching the Steelers and Penn State games. Ruth was a loving mother that made sure her family was very close and did many things together.
At Ruth’s request there will be no public services and interment will be held Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
Contributions in memory of Ruth may be given to Hollidaysburg Public Library, 1 Furnace Rd., Scenic Pine Dr., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
