Roaring Spring

Samuel P. Thomas

December 18,1961 - September 13, 2022

THOMAS, Samuel P, 60, of Roaring Spring passed on from this life Tuesday, September 13, 2022 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones in his home when his arms reached out to his Savior to be escorted into eternal glory.

Sam was born into a large family of nine siblings. He recently commented, “When I was young, I didn’t know how rich we were,” referring to not material wealth, but the love his family shared. Sam’s siblings include: Richard “Rich” Thomas Jr. (wife Beth), Donna Clouse (husband Glen), Gloria Miller (late-husband Kenneth), Sandra Traxler (husband Dennis), John Thomas (wife Barb), William “Bill” Thomas (wife Mona), Randy Thomas (wife Denise) and Linda Thomas, all of whom live in Bedford and Blair Counties, along with 43 nieces and nephews including great nieces and nephews. He was blessed to have many special friends including; Kevin Hazenstab, Jodie and Mahlon Henry, Paul and Marylin Gochnour and his dog Leeroy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Iva Thomas; father, Richard Thomas; niece, Shannon Thomas; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Miller.

Sam’s strong work ethic included employment at Seton Leather Corporation, Appvion Papers, and most recently the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home.

Sam was always full of life. He had an infectious laugh, and made those he talked to feel like they were the most important person in the world. He will be remembered for his love of cars, owning more in his lifetime than even he could count. Sam was known for his “teasing” manner, cheating on board games (although he would never admit it), dancing to 80’s pop music, and his ruthless desire to win his family’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. His presence will be missed beyond words.

Friends will be received on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at the Stone Funeral Home in Woodbury and Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at the Faith United Methodist Church in Woodbury. Pastor Tony Baker will be officiating.

Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Sam’s name can be made to the Bedford County Humane Society.
