Sara Louise (Gates) Reid, 86, resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Lock Mountain Rd., rural Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday afternoon, October 3, 2018 at the home.

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Wilfred Dewey and Margaret Jane (Smeltzer) Gates.  On September 8, 1953 she married the love of her life, Ronald D. Reid and they were married for 62 wonderful years.  He preceded her in death on March 2, 2016.

Surviving are a daughter, Kimberly Unger (husband, Paul) of rural Martinsburg; a granddaughter, Kandace D. Sollenberger (husband, Jason) of Clappertown; and two great-grandchildren: Alyssa T. and Kaleb P. Sollenberger.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Phyllis Blakely and Doris Speck.

Sara was a 1950 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and attended Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church for many years.  She was employed as a secretary for United Telephone, Martinsburg and Time Warner Cable, Roaring Spring.

Sara loved singing in her church choir and with the community chorus.  She also enjoyed taking an art class in Roaring Spring and having breakfast everyday at the Kountry Kettle Restaurant, Hopewell.

Friends will be received from 9:30 am until the 11am funeral service, Monday, October 8, 2018 at The Village at Morrisons Cove Chapel, Martinsburg, Chaplain Linda Banaszak and Hospice Chaplain Janet Sell officiating.  Private interment will be held at Holsinger Cemetery, rural Roaring Spring.

The family prefers memorial contributions in memory of Sara be given to Mending Hearts Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 97, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or Gideon’s International Bible Ministry, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.

Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
