Shirley Killinger Bishop, 88, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday afternoon at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Chester S. and Pauline M. (Amhrein) Killinger.  Shirley was the widow of Calvin C. Bishop Jr., who died on October 29, 1951.

Surviving are a daughter, Cindy L. Borzilleri of Mechanicsburg; 2 granddaughters: Lauren and Elysabethe Borzilleri; and a cousin, Joseph Risbon (wife, Elizabeth) of Hollidaysburg.

Shirley attended elementary school at Logan School and Junior High at McKinley in Juniata.  She was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School and in that year was accepted into the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp and entered Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1948.  In 1948 she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Millersville and continued her graduate studies at Penn State, Harrisburg campus.

She began her nursing career at the V.A. Hospital near Ashville, NC and later entered Public School Nursing in the Halifax Area School District.  Shirley retired in 1986 from the Hollidaysburg Area School District and had a total of 30 years of school nursing.

Shirley was of the Lutheran Faith, which began at Trinity Lutheran Church, Altoona.  She later attended Newry Lutheran Church and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill.

She was a member of Gold Star Wives of America, PSEA, PSAR, Harrisburg Hospital Alumni, Altoona High School Alumni Association, Blair County Retried School Nurses and was a charter member of Women in Military Service for the American Memorial Foundation, Inc., Washington D.C.

Friends will be received from 12:30 pm until 2pm, Monday, August 22, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where a funeral service will follow at 2pm, Monday at the funeral home, Reverend Jerry McCuller Jr. officiating.  Private interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
