Shirley Jean Long, 94, of Martinsburg, passed away early Monday morning, February 17, 2025, at Homewood at Martinsburg.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late David L. and Bertha Kathryn (Mauch) Detwiler.  On October 10, 1953, she married Lester Max Long in Henrietta.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Lester, of 71 years; three children: David R. Long (Patty) of Richmond, VA, Timothy S. Long (Juanita) of New Enterprise and Paula Lee Weber (Sam) of Rowlett, TX; 7 grandchildren: Zachary Long, Tyler Long, Andrew Long, Scott Long, Jennifer McCoy, Rachel Weber and Eric Weber; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Pearle L. Heuston; and a brother, David L. Detwiler.

Shirley was a 1948 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg and earned a Secretarial degree from the Altoona School of Commerce.  She retired as an executive secretary from Roaring Spring Blank Book Company.

She was a longtime, active member of Diehl’s Crossroads Church of the Brethren, where she played piano for many Sunday services. Shirley was also a former member of The First Church of the Brethren in Roaring Spring and Roaring Spring Women’s Club.

Shirley loved her God, life and family and traveling with her sister, Pearle.  She also enjoyed reading, bowling, swimming, card games and going to plays, concerts and the movies.

At Shirley’s request there will be no services and a private inurnment will be held at Diehl’s Crossroads Church Cemetery.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.

Contributions in memory of Shirley may be given to Diehl’s Crossroads Church, 2631 Henrietta Rd., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
