Shirley I. Burket

September 27, 1932 – October 11, 2022

Shirley Idella Burket, 90, of Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.

She was born in rural Williamsburg, daughter of the late Emory H. and Alice A. (Bechtel) Frye. On March 31, 1956 she married E. Rodney Burket at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2019 after 62 years of marriage.

Surviving are a son, Stephen R. Burket (Pamela M.) of Ashburn, VA; two grandchildren: Joshua S. Burket and Hannah Mae Burket; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by four brothers: infant Robert, Ernest, Edison, and Ellis Frye; and three sisters: infants Golda and Sylvia Frye, and Darlene Edwards.

She was a 1951 graduate of Williamsburg High School and retired as a nurse’s aide from the Morrisons Cove Home in Martinsburg.

Shirley was a longtime member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where she attended Joy Fellowship and was a member of the Berachah Sunday school class.

She was a former member of the Red Hat Society and Martinsburg Women’s Civic Club.  Shirley loved spending time and visiting with family and friends, watching the Food Network, doing word search puzzles and was an avid reader.

Friends will be received from 12:30 until 2 pm, Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church where a funeral service will follow at 2 pm at the church, with Danny Horton officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Shirley may be given to Dominion Christian School, 11411A- Isaac Newton Square South, Reston, VA 20190.
